How should children maintain their mental health?

Mental health in all about how an individual thinks, behave and feel.  It is referred to as emotional, psychological, social, and cognitive well- being. Mental health is an ability that determines how we handle stress and choose between possibilities. Mental health and well-being are essential at all stages of life, starting from childhood and teenage through adulthood. Major reasons that may lead to mental illness include bad sleeping habits, inadequate sleep, stress, excessive use of electronic items like mobile phones, TV, laptops, and video games before bedtime, social isolation, trauma, and head injuries.
Mental illness has following warning signals, these include;
·         Anxiety
·         Depression or Long-lasting sadness
·         Mood Swings
·         Social Withdrawal
·         Delusions or hallucinations
Tips that improve children mental and emotional well- beings include;
·         Self-confidence and high self-esteem
Helping children develop their self-confidence and self-esteem can give a significant boost to their mental health.
·         Foster Healthy Relationships
It is observed that a mentally healthy child will have a good relationship with their family members such as parents, siblings, grandparents, cousins, neighbour, and friends. Maintaining these relations will help your child improve their mental health.
·         Healthy Habits
A healthy diet, regular exercise, a good night sleep, and drinking plenty of water is not only good for physical health but also good for your child’s mental health. Parents should help their child to develop these healthy habits from an early age, which will keep them mentally and physically fit.
·         Stress Management Techniques
Stress is a normal part of everyone’s life, you can’t prevent your child from stress, therefore, you should teach your child how to deal with stress? You should create a safe, positive, and secure surroundings so that the child can discuss their issues with you.
Research states that when parents have untreated mental issues, children are more likely to develop mental health problems, therefore, parents should make sure to take proper treatment if facing any such mental health issues as otherwise, it may make family life inconsistent or unpredictable.
