How to score 600+ marks in NEET using 10 simple steps?
The National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is India’s premier medical entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) every year. The only gateway to India’s premier medical colleges, it is considered as one of the most competitive and challenging medical entrance examinations that provide student’s admissions to MBBS, BDS, AYUSH and other medical courses.
Every
year almost a million students register for NEET hoping to get a seat in reputed
medical and dental colleges. Around 15.94 lakh students registered for NEET in
2020 and nearly 15.19 lakh in the year 2019. Clearing NEET is a matter of
immense hard work, dedication, consistency, and focus. According to reports,
around 8 lakh Indian residents cleared NEET in the year 2019. However, only a
handful of students cleared the exam with a 600+ score.
Why
600+ score in NEET?
NEET All
India Rank (AIR) is the deciding factor for admission to undergraduate courses
in the medical and dental colleges across India. This AIR is evaluated on the
basis of NEET scores hence a score of 600+ becomes essential for students to
get an MBBS or BDS seat in the country’s top medical colleges.
How
to get 600 score in NEET?
Clearing
NEET with a 600+ score can be a challenging task for many students. It can be
understood by the fact that in NEET 2019, only 3 candidates could score 700
marks, 9 scored 695 marks and 27 students cleared the examination with a score
of 690. Getting a 600 score in NEET is largely dependent on the amount of hard
work and dedication you put in for achieving your set target. Proper planning,
scheduling and other preparatory tips with tremendous will power and
determination that will encourage will lead you to success.
Here are
some tips and suggestions that CDC, has cracked which can guide your preparation
for a 600+ score in NEET:
1. Know the exam
Before you start, it is very
important to understand the pattern and mark distribution system of the exam.
NEET is primarily based on the concepts of Physics, Chemistry and Biology
(Botany and Zoology). Following tables provide detailed information about exam
pattern and mark distribution scheme for NEET.

For a minimum score of 600 means that you need to answer at least 150
questions (out of 180) correctly without marking any incorrect answer. However,
to be on the safer side, you should aim to answer 160-170 questions correctly
in case you get unlucky with negative marking.
2. Read
the complete syllabus
The
National Testing Agency (NTA) has put together a vast syllabus for the medical
entrance examination. The respective syllabus is a combination of various State
Boards, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council Board of School
Education (COBSE) and the National Council of Education Research and Training
(NCERT). Complete analysis of syllabus will allow you to take notes of the
important and relevant topics from the class 12th board syllabus and will help you plan ahead. 3. Create a study plan
In order
to achieve a 600+ score in NEET, you should develop a refined and a
constructive time table. This will not only help you with the division of the
NEET syllabus (as per your convenience) but will also allow you to provide equal
(or necessary) time to all the four subjects. CDC recommends you to complete
the syllabus by November 2020 so that you have enough time for revision and
practice. Here are some important things you should keep in mind when making a
timetable for NEET preparation:
·
Consider your school hours, coaching class (or
tuition), self-study, and some leisure time.
·
It should allow you to study, revise and practice
each day.
·
Have small breaks in the time table to feel
refreshed and energized.
·
Update your time table in accordance with your needs and requirements.
4.
Make NCERT books your friend
NCERT
books for classes 11th and 12th are the best reference sources for NEET preparations. A major
portion of NEET exam questions is based on the concepts mentioned in the NCERT
books. Once you answer all the NCERT questions, you can look out for other
reference books and study materials.
5.
Solve previous year question paper
Solving
previous year question papers and analysing their patterns will provide you
with insights and ideas of what might come in the NEET question paper and will
also help you in time management. After you are able to successfully solve
these question papers, you can easily frame your strategy for the main exam as in
how much time you need to allocate to each section beforehand.
6.
Give online mock tests
These
mock tests allow you to analyze your performance and strengthen your
confidence. Many online test platforms provide you with answer keys and detailed
solutions which further allow you to remap and revise your preparation
strategies based on your performance.
7.
Revise important topics
In order
to attain a better understanding of the important topics, it is extremely
important to revise them regularly. Below is the list of important topics for
NEET:
Important
Topics NEET |
|
Physics |
Optics,
Thermodynamics, Electrostatics, Current electricity, Electronic devices,
Rotational Motion |
Chemistry |
Chemical
bonding and molecular structure, Thermodynamics, Solutions,
Equilibrium, Coordination compounds, s-block elements, p-block elements, GOC,
Alcohol, PHenols and Ethers |
Biology |
Biological
classification, Principles of inheritance and variation, Sexual
reproduction in flowering plants, Morphology of flowering plants, Diversity
of living organisms, Molecular basis of inheritance, Human physiology,
Biology and Human welfare |
After
analysis CDC has found that the above-mentioned topics carry maximum mark
weightage in the last 4 year’s NEET question papers. Thus, it is always better
to stay a step ahead with a proper revision of these topics.
8.
Practice daily
The
famous proverb “practice makes a man perfect” is true in every sense. You
may forget topics if not practised and revised regularly. Furthermore, you
should not forget that the exam pattern has negative marking. Thus, you cannot
leave any scope of errors when aiming at 600+
9.
Time management is the key
NEET is
a time-bound examination with only a period of 3 hours hence you should be
prepared to race against time. Regular practising along with revisions is the
only proven way to perfect your time management skills for the NEET
examination. According to CDC, If a student is able to answer 50-55 questions
within a time frame of one hour, the chances of getting a good score get
considerably high.
10.
Don’t ignore your health
A good
physical and mental health is important for NEET preparation. A tired and a
stressed mind is the biggest nemesis of human efficiency and productivity. It makes
it hard for the student to understand and memorize concepts hence staying
unhealthy during the preparatory phase can eventually hinder your preparation
tactics and induce a feeling of discontent and demotivation. Thus take good
diet, rest, and sleep and take a break from studies to do things that make you
feel relaxed and stress-free.
CDC
knows how tough the goal of 600+ is so stay motivated, follow your goals passionately,
and always remember that it’s not about how hard you work, rather it’s about
how you manage your time, resources and mind for strategic NEET preparation and
a better outcome.
