What is the purpose of competitive examination?
In a country where
more than 13 lakh student appear for engineering discipline, competitive
examinations are a must. For around 10000 seats, 10 lakh candidates apply, then
choosing the best 10000 out of them can be done only through entrance
examinations. These entrance examinations test persistence, hard work, and
students’ efforts. When a student completes certain number of questions in a
fixed amount of time, the calm, composure and time management of a candidate is
also tested. This is why entrance examination is so crucial.
A boon for students
At times students
aren’t able to secure good aggregate marks in subjects like English, Physical
Education because of which their intermediate percentage goes less. In
competitive examination, one only needs to focus on core subjects. These entrance
exams provide a fantastic outlet for students to get admission in spite of low
intermediate grades. They give students a chance to excel and to make it to the
institute of their choice.
A way to learn hard work and time management
Today people are
making conscious efforts to instil the value of discipline, hard work, and time
management in themselves to enhance their efficiency. In this process, Entrance
exams help a lot. They require an enormous amount of preparation, which demands
time from the student and requires to follow a strict schedule, managing time effectively,
and giving equal importance to all subjects. This requires students to work
extremely hard to achieve the results that they want to.
But every cloud has a silver lining…
Some believe
entrance examination promote unhealthy competition among students. They make
them anxious and stressed, instilling a fear of failure in their minds. It can
be so serious that some commit suicide. But with proper guidance and
counselling, all these negatives can be flipped into positives.
Entrance exams have become a stepping
stone into the rest of their lives for students. They provide candidates with
an opportunity to make it to their desired higher studies courses, no matter
their board results. Therefore, entrance exams have become sort of a household
name in the Indian education system.
