8 Vedic Maths Tricks: Calculate 10x Faster
Vedic Math is known as the uncontemporary form of mathematics which was rediscovered by Mathematician Shri Bharti Krishna Tirthaji, somewhere between 1911 and 1918 from the Vedas. The term ‘vedic’ came from the Sanskrit word ‘Veda’, which means knowledge. And Vedic Math is a comprehensive collection of sutras to solve math problems in a faster and easier way. Using this method, long and tricky calculations suddenly turn easy.
In this blog, we will focus on Vedic Math Tricks which you can apply to solve your ICSE/CBSE Math or JEE problems in less time and more accuracy.
So here are the 8 vedic math tricks that you should know about:
Squaring of a number with Unit Digit 5
With this vedic math trick, you can easily find the square of a two-digit number ending with 5. Whether you follow CBSE or ICSE syllabus, you will definitely come across such sums.
For example Find (55) ² =?
Step 1: 55 x 55 = ..25
Step 2: 5 x (5+1)= 30
So, our answer will be 3025
Multiplication of a Number with 5
Memorising the table of 5, is a cakewalk! But, as the smaller numbers turn to large numbers, all you need to do is add (0) at the end of the number. In case, it is not a whole number then add 5 at the end and ignore whatever remainder you have got.
For example 8246 x 5 =?
Step 1: 8246/2
Step 2: If it is a whole number, add 0
The answer will be 8426 x 5= 42130
Subtraction of a Number from 1000,10000, 100000 and so on
This vedic math trick is very useful especially when you want accurate results from 1000, 10000, 100000 and so on.
There is only one standard formula- subtract all the digits from 9 and last digit from 10 and you will get your answer.
For example 1000-876 =?
We will simply subtract each figure in 876 from 9 and the last figure from 10.
Step 1: 9-8 = 1
Step 2: 9-7 = 2
Step 3: 10-6 = 4
So, the final answer will be 1000-473 = 124
Dividing a Large Number by 5
Using this trick, you can quickly arrive at the result by dividing a large digit number by 5. All you need to follow is just the 2 simple steps.
In step1, multiply the number by 2, while in step 2 move the decimal point.
For example: 235/5 =?
Step 1: 235*2 = 470
Step 2: Move the decimal that is, 47.0 or just 47
Convert Kilograms to Pound Quickly
If you are looking for an alternative to convert kilograms to pounds, you can do it in your head in a matter of a few seconds.
Let’s consider an example: Convert 112 Kg to Pound
Step 1: Multiply Kg value by 2
( 112 x 2 = 224)
Step 2: Divide the value of the previous step by 10
( 224/10 = 22.4)
Step 3: Add both the numbers
224 + 22.4 = 246.4 pounds
Multiplication of a 2-digit Number by 11
Using this trick, you can do multiplication within 1 or 2 seconds. So, let’s take a look at how using this method, calculation can be done in a matter of seconds.
Let’s consider an example when you want to multiply 25 and 11, imagine there is a space between 25
Step 1: Let’s put an imaginary space between- 25*11 = 2_5
Step 2: Just add 2 and 5 and fill up the imaginary space with the result
So, the answer you get is: 25 * 11 = 275
Multiplication of any 3- digit Number
Randomly take any 2 numbers like 308 and 306
Step 1: Begin by subtracting the number from unit place
308-8 = 300
306-6 = 300
Step 2: Now select any number and add the unit digit together of another number
308 + 6 = 314
Step 3: In this step multiply, 314 * 300 = 94200
Step 4: Multiply the unit digits of both numbers, 8 *6 = 48
Step 5: Add, 94200 + 48 = 94248
Hence, the product of the numbers 308 and 306 is 94248
Find the Square Value
Finding the square of a number using Vedic Math Trick is super easy. Just follow the below-mentioned steps:
Step 1: Choose a base which is closer to the original number
Step 2: Using the base, find the difference of the number
Step 3: You have to add the difference with the original number
Step 4: Multiply the result with the base
Step 5: Add the product of the square with the result
For example: (99) ² =?
Step 1: Choose 100 as base
Step 2: Difference 99-100 = -1
Step 3: Add the number with the difference = 99 + (-1) = 98
Step 4: Multiply the result with base = 98*100 = 9800
Step 5: Add the final result with the square of the difference = 9800 + (-1)² = 9801
Therefore, our final answer is : (99) ² = 9801
In the beginning, you may find these vedic tricks difficult and complicated. But, the more you will practice, the better you will become at it.
